Employee’s Job Stability and Prospects

Customer service has become the ultimate factor when it comes to the success of a business. Within any business, employees are hired for particular skills. The higher the client’s demands, the higher the need for specialized skills and professional employees. In a company that is client-focused, employees with various skills have the opportunity to develop, and moreover, companies will compete for that employee. When an employee proves his or her ability to deliver excellent customer service, he or she becomes an essential asset to the company. This ensures job stability and a full palette of prospects for the well-trained employee.

Customer service also makes the difference between a job and a career. While a job is considered a temporary or random period of work, a career is a fulfilling occupation that can be developed for a lifetime.

Customer service: Job versus career

The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary shows us that a job is defined as:

  • A small miscellaneous piece of work undertaken on order at a stated rate;
  • Something was done for private advantage;
  • Something that has to be done.

On the other hand, a career is defined as:

  • A field for or pursuit of consecutive progressive achievement especially in public, professional, or business life;
  • A profession for which one trains and which is undertaken as a permanent calling.

The main differences that we need to point out between a job and a career are the following:

JOB

CAREER

A job is an obligation

A job is temporary

A job is a miscellaneous task

A career is a goal

A career is permanent

A career is a profession

A workplace developed on principles of high-quality customer service offers employees the conditions to pursue a career. Due to excellent client service, the company is more successful; therefore, it has the resources to invest in the employee’s development. A consumer-focused company has a creative and innovative environment so employees can choose from different a variety of methods of development and their own different personal development targets.

Also, a company with excellent customer service functions on specialization, which means that employees have a continuation between education and work development. The knowledge the employees acquire in educational institutions can be put into practice in the company. When it comes to a job, the employee doesn’t necessarily have a continuation of his or her education and specialization at work. In fact, he or she might choose a career that has nothing to do with their field of education.
