Gary has had more than 12 years of corporate training experience with a wide field of training expertise, based on a diverse professional career experience.
Gary performed engineering R&D for nine years in the mining industry in South Africa, project-managing a multi-million dollar suite of projects in a multi-disciplinary approach, getting a M.Sc. in Engineering along the way. Besides the R&D, Gary developed a strong mining engineering consulting practice in the platinum and coal industry, set up commercial arrangements to sell mine safety equipment to the Indian coal mining market, and managed a software development team for the commercialisation of technical software.
After an MBA with distinction (with electives in Finance, Leadership, and Marketing, as well as a Thesis in Human Capital), Gary performed consulting work in business process optimisation and knowledge management.
Gary was appointed Project Manager for a global strategy project for SABMiller, a FTSE 100 company. The project involved travelling to 10 countries, across Africa, Asia, the UK, Mexico, and Central America, with the final recommendations approved by the Executive Board. In this time, Gary also aided in 2 M&A projects in Asia, and reviewed the KPIs for the CEO of SABMiller’s Coca-Cola bottler in South Africa.
Gary was then appointed GM-Sales and Distribution for a Coca-Cola bottler, owned by SABMiller. With a team of 3 sales managers, and managers for operations, finance, marketing, and HR, Gary had P&L responsibility for a revenue of US$90m. A signature achievement was improving profit by 60% in the final year.
Before coming to Dubai, Gary founded his own corporate training business in Munich, Germany, which provided training in a wide range of soft skills and management skills programs.
Gary has been based in Dubai since 2015, and feels he succeeds as a trainer when the material comes alive for the delegates, and they feel excited about making changes in their working lives based on what they’ve discovered in the training with Gary.
